Martin Luther King Day is not a holiday that all states in the US make employers observe. My state, Wisconsin is one of them. My employer is based in California and they give their employees this holiday off.
As it is in the middle of the three day weekend, Sunday. I started to notice the ads for home improvement stores. Then the Monday only sales. With President’s Day in February this is pushed even more.
In May it is Memorial Day, where the stores want you to buy more.
Then the idea hit me. A free 3 day weekend. This is what me employer gave me. So why don’t I use it? See the key word here is free. The challenge is to make it truly free.
This weekend my wife and I cannot say we did this. We went to a store and bought a replacement light bulb (a special bulb) and a flower pot. Today we do need to pick up groceries as the cupboard is bare. So it will be a low cost weekend not a FREE one. However Monday will be Free. I will not spend money on Monday.
So watch out President’s Day weekend…You are my Free Three Day Weekend. Until then how about just a normal Free weekend? Next weekend? Maybe…
