I was looking around the net today for something to inspire me. It came to me when I stumbled upon the “One Year Savings Plan” at Real Simple magazines site. My jaw just dropped open reading the advice (and I use the word loosely) that some places give. The article says…
If you want this amount: $1,000
Save this weekly: $19.50
Save this monthly: $83.50
If you want this amount: $1,500
Save this weekly: $29
Save this monthly: $125
I guess I believe that readers are more intelligent than this. They know how to take a calculator and divide an amount by 52 weeks in a year or by 12 months. If they do not how do they reconcile their checkbook?
This is the problem for most financial advice that is out there. They say you should save but do not tell you how.
