I have also read, but not tried, taking a cup of two of ammonia, sitting it in your oven, with the oven door closed, all night long.

Then, open and wipe the inside out with paper towels and sponges. It's supposed to work great and it is a lot cheaper than Easy Off Oven Cleaner.

Make sure you wear gloves when wiping the inside of the oven out.

I gotta try that one of these days!

Whenever I read tips like this I always think "My mom and grandmother were right all along." They didn't seek store-bought solutions because at one time they didn't exist, and later because they would never have spent money on anything for which they had a frugal solution.

Being educated, informed and enlightened get in my way of being frugal. It seems that I always seek a store-bought solution especially for household cleaning when the frugal solutions make so much sense and cents.

Thanks to your blog I'm moving toward thinking of the frugal solution first, rather than last.
